Häagen-Dazs exclusively uses real Bourbon vanilla beans to get its extract. The orchids that give us our beautiful beans grow in the northern coastal areas of the island of Madagascar, where the soil, weather and dense forest are ideal for supporting vanilla production.
Our growers select for us the very best of their vanilla crop. Only long beans that have fully matured on the vine are selected. These beans are artfully cured in the warmth of the sun, spread on blankets during the day, collected at night or during rain to protect their qualities. With this process, the bean turns into a deep mahogany colour with fully developed flavours. This extraordinary vanilla bean delivers a complex taste, prominently featuring caramel, bourbon/sweet mash whiskey and dried fruit.
